Travel insurance and the volcanic ash
Travel insurance through your Police Federation
Passengers stranded overseas:
If, due to delays beyond your control, your trip exceeds the 30 days standard term, full cover for a further 21 days, at no cost to the insured is included.
Members, whose return to the UK has been delayed, may be eligible for the Travel Delay benefit of £60 per insured person as stated in the certificate wording. Any additional costs incurred in respect of travel/accommodation will need to be recovered from the airline/tour operator.
Cancellation of outbound flights:
Cancellation cover operates in respect of irrecoverable costs only. Members in the first instance should contact their airline or tour operator to rearrange their trip or obtain a refund.
If the travel costs are irrecoverable, claims will be considered on the basis that the flight has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Members will need to obtain written evidence from their airline/tour operator confirming such costs are non-refundable.
Trips booked on or after 15th April 2010:
Where a trip has been booked on/after 15th April, there will be no cover for cancellation claims relating to volcanic ash until further notice.
